The purpose of backswing is to place the club in a correct position at the top. Shoulders are fully turned at 90 degree, shoulder meet the chin. Right side of the body from hip to shoulder is cleared to the rear. Hips turned at 45 degree, right leg remain flexed and left heel rises slightly. All of these factors enable you to reach correct position at the top.
The shaft of the driver should be horizontal to the ground and parallel with target line. With fairway woods and irons the shaft will not go back as far. The overswinging leads to loss of control in the downswing. Horizontal position is just enough.
As left hand and arm swings the club back and up in the backswing, there is a feeling in the knees and feet that body stays down. THERE IS A UPWARD PRESSURE(as the left hand and arm swings the club up) AND A DOWNWORD PRESSURE(the feet pressure into the ground ).
The bent in left knee and raised left heel and upward pressure create power in the hands at the top of the swing and now you can conserve and control the power.
During the backswing there is no distinct weight shift from left foot to right foot. At the completion of the backswing the weight is give or take evenly distributed between the feet. Pressure is felt inside right foot and right on ball of the feet, the toe joint of left foot.
To clear the right side of body, most golfers find it necessary to slightly raise the left heel off the ground. This heel movement allows extra body turn to make sure that the club reaches a correct position at the top.
The flexed right leg stabilize the body and enable it to turn in the right way. The right knee stay inside the foot.
The wrists break naturally at the top of the backswing. As the swing gets shorter, wrists break less.
The downswing is undoubtedly the most important phase of the swing. Main goal of downswing is to create power, and control direction of ball flight. Proper control of the shoulders is the key to the correct downswing movement. Proper feet and legs movement in the downswing should take place to keep the shoulders reactive.
A correct downswing movement must result in a powerful swing and along the target line through impact. In order to achieve this movement the shoulders must be square at impact.
When you reach to the top of backswing, left heel rise and weight transfer forward on the ball of the left foot. The pressure on the inside of left foot provides base for the left arm swinging down toward impact.
In the downswing this time there is a downward pressure(left hand and arm swing the club down)and upward pressure(left foot, left knee, left leg moving up).
Pause provides great timing. Transition, when the club turns around from backswing to downswing, should be the slowest phase of the swing.
From the top of the swing, swing left hand and arm down toward the ball. Always hands control the clubhead, particularly control fingers and wrists. Right side of the body, right arm, right hand, right elbow, are reactive until the club is down to hip height. hands are in a position to release the clubhead.
The purpose of the backswing is to put the shaft correctly at the top. The left hand, arm and shoulder swing the club up into position. It should create the swing plane. Now the left hand and arm will need to reverse its direction of the swing. Move the hands and arms and club down into the ball. When you do this, Hands plane, arms plane, club plane remains the same plane. Hands have to lead the clubhead down into the ball.
The right arm and elbow are reactive until the club moves down to thigh high. Then, the hands are ready to release the club. Swing hands and arms as fast as you can.
When you write letters with a pen, you must control your finger to write a letter or when you toss the ball, you must control your fingers and wrist to toss the ball. Both of the case fingers and wrist are live and very sensitive at all times, interaction between the fingers and hands. You must control the clubhead with fingers.
